SAFF Championship 2021: Maldives win and Sri Lanka draw, Nepal easy to reach final

On Thursday, Maldives defeated unbeaten Bangladesh 2-0 in the tournament and Sri Lanka played draw with India Nepal managed to hold on to the top of the table. Maldives surpassed India by opening an account in the points table. Now Nepal is at the top of the table with six points from two games. Second-placed Bangladesh has added four points in three games.

Hosting Country Maldives have risen to third place in the table with their first win. The team has added 3 points in 2 games. Similarly, India has tied both its games and added 2 points in 2 games. Sri Lanka is at the bottom of the table with 1 point in 3 games. Sri Lanka’s chances of reaching the final are limited to mathematical equations.

Now Nepal will be sure top two position by winning one of the remaining two games of the league stage. Nepal will now face India on Sunday and Bangladesh on Wednesday. Nepal is sure to reach the final without losing the remaining two games.

If in the next match, Nepal drew with India and if the match between Maldives and Sri Lanka was also drawn, Nepal will almost reach the final. Nepal will reach the final if Sri Lanka defeats Maldives and Nepal draws with India. In case Nepal loses to India, it will be enough to defeat Bangladesh in the last match. India will have to work hard to reach the final. In the last match, Nepal will face Bangladesh and Maldives will face India in the semi-finals.
