Under 19 Asia Cup: Nepal played with three full members of Asia Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Srilanka. In the four team group, Nepal played three matches in which it lost to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka and in the last game it defeated Afghanistan by one wicket.
Nepal finished third in the group. It was being speculated that Nepal could surprise any team by winning at least one game. Nepal’s performance was in accordance with that.
Some players of the last time’s U19 team were not a part of this Nepal team but Arjun Kumal and captain Hemant Dhami had played the previous game as well.
Nepal lost to Sri Lanka in its first game. Sri Lanka had given Nepal a target of 234 runs but Nepal was all out for 178. In this game, Nepal bowled out Sri Lanka and Santosh Yadav took four wickets and Yuvraj Khatri took two wickets. Mayan Yadav scored 62 runs in batting.
Nepal’s second game was with Bangladesh in which Nepal batted first and the team was all out for 141 runs. Akash Tripathi scored the highest 43 runs. Bangladesh achieved the target of 142 runs at the loss of 5 wickets in 28.4 overs. Yuvraj Khatri took 4 wickets against Bangladesh.
In the third game which was the last match of the group, Nepal restricted Afghanistan to 123 runs. In this game, Afghan U19 scored 123 runs in 35.4 overs for which Faisal Shinozada scored 52 runs. For Nepal’s bowler Unish Thakur and Santosh Yadav took 3/3 and Hemant Dhami and Abhishek Tiwari took 2/2 wickets. Nepal achieved the target of 124 runs at the loss of 9 wickets in 41.3 overs. Naren Saud scored 26, Captain Hemant Dhami scored 22 and Arjun Kumal scored 21 runs for Nepal U19.
