Nepal lost to South Africa by one run in the Group D match of T20 World Cup 2024. If Nepal had won it, it would have been the second upset of this World Cup. Earlier, USA had defeated Pakistan in the Super Over.
Nepal won the toss and invited South Africa to bat and restricted them to 115 runs. For Nepal, their spinner bowled economically and took 7 wickets.
Nepal needed 116 runs to win but they could only make 114 runs for the loss of 7 wickets and lost the match by one run.
Nepal bowled well and played well against South Africa’s strong bowling attack but in the last 3 overs of the second innings, South African bowlers brought their team back into the game. The experience of South African bowlers came in handy in this match. Tabraiz Samsi turned the tide of the match by dismissing two set batsmen of Nepal in the last over of his quota.
Positive for Nepal
Two wicketkeepers of Nepal team Anil Sah and Assif Sheikh were playing in the playing eleven today and both scored runs. Apart from these two players, the remaining 9 players can bowl according to the need and pitch condition. And the second special thing is that players up to number 9 can bat. Today Sompal Kami, playing at number 8, hit a 105 meter long six. And Kushal Bhurtel, who is the opening batsman, took 4 wickets for 19 runs in 4 overs.
Nepal may have lost in this but they can assess their level after this game. And their morale will be high in the upcoming game against Bangladesh.
Positive for South Africa
There is nothing much positive in this for South Africa. They just got the victory. But one thing is in their favor, their bowlers have won the match under small scores and pressure.
Spin bowler Tabraiz Samsi, he has taken 4 wickets for 19 runs in 4 overs. In the upcoming match, the team can go with two spinners.
