CWC League 2 : Another Challenging Day for Nepal, The United States Secures Victory in Dubai

0

In what turned out to be a high-scoring and tense encounter at the ICCA Dubai, the USA defeated Nepal by 4 wickets in the 88th Match of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2.

The match, held on November 1, 2025, saw Nepal post a competitive total; however, a disciplined and powerful batting performance from the USA, led by Saiteja Mukkamalla and Milind Kumar, enabled the table-toppers to chase down the target with six balls to spare. This loss represents a significant setback for Nepal’s campaign, marking their third consecutive defeat in this tri-series and casting further doubt on their aspirations for a top-four finish.

Scorecard Summary

Nepal’s Innings: 271 all out (49.5 overs) Put in to bat, Nepal’s innings unfolded as a narrative of recovery. After a shaky start that saw opener Aasif Sheikh dismissed for just 2 runs, the middle order stepped up. Kushal Bhurtel (47) and Bhim Sharki (43) provided stability, but it was Dipendra Singh Airee who anchored the innings with a commendable 75 runs off 67 balls. Just as the run rate began to decline, Karan KC delivered a remarkable cameo, scoring 49 runs from only 31 balls (including 2 fours and 3 sixes) to propel Nepal to a respectable total of 271. For the USA, left-arm spinner Harmeet Singh was the standout bowler, claiming 3 wickets for just 33 runs in his 10 overs. Saurabh Netravalkar and Nosthush Kenjige also contributed with two wickets each.

USA’s Innings: 273/6 (49 overs) Chasing a target of 272, the USA’s response was anchored by two exceptional half-centuries. After losing a few early wickets, Saiteja Mukkamalla (75 off 101) and Milind Kumar (70 off 66) formed a match-defining partnership. They exhibited patience and capitalized on loose deliveries, effectively taking control of the game. Shayan Jahangir also provided a solid start with 36 runs. Despite a late surge of wickets from Nepal’s star bowler Sandeep Lamichhane (3 for 53), the USA had established too strong a foundation. Harmeet Singh, the standout bowler, fittingly concluded the match with a series of boundaries.

Match Analysis: Where It Was Won and Lost

Nepal will regret their inability to break the partnership between Mukkamalla and Kumar. While Lamichhane was effective, the remainder of the bowling attack struggled to maintain pressure or secure crucial breakthroughs during the middle overs. Missed opportunities and several misfields further compounded their difficulties. Conversely, the USA executed a clinically professional performance. Their bowlers, led by Harmeet Singh’s restrictive spell, limited Nepal to a total that was competitive but not insurmountable. Their batsmen approached the chase with a clear strategy, identifying Lamichhane as the primary threat and ensuring they capitalized on the other bowlers.

The Way Forward in ICC WCL 2

This result carries significant implications for both teams in the ICC World Cricket League 2, which serves as the pathway to the 2027 World Cup Qualifier.

For the USA: This victory solidifies their position at the top of the 8-team table. With 34 points from 23 matches, they are comfortably placed and appear almost certain to secure one of the top-four spots that guarantee direct qualification for the next stage.

For Nepal: The outlook is bleak. This marks their 12th loss in 19 matches, leaving them in 7th place with only 12 points. Their prospects for a top-four finish are rapidly diminishing. The team finds itself in a precarious situation and will need to win nearly all of their remaining matches to retain even a slim chance. Their immediate focus must be to regroup and devise a strategy to secure victory in their final tour match against the UAE.

ICC CWC League 2: Nepal Set Competitive 271 Against USA

0

Nepal batted first against the United States in the 88th ODI of the ICC World Cup League 2 and scored 271 runs in 49.5 overs. Despite early setbacks, strong middle-order partnerships and late-inning power-hitting helped the team reach a respectable first innings total.

Nepal Batting

Nepal had a rocky start to their innings, losing Aasif Sheikh in the second over for just 2 runs. However, Kushal Bhurtel and Bhim Sharki stabilized the situation with a solid partnership, adding 86 runs and bringing the score close to 90. Bhurtel was eventually dismissed for 47 runs off 65 balls, followed shortly by Sharki, who scored 43 runs off 58 balls. The American bowlers then regained control of the game with their disciplined line and length.

Skipper Rohit Paudel played a responsible innings, scoring 36 runs off 46 deliveries while effectively rotating the strike. As wickets began to fall during the middle overs, Dipendra Singh Airee stepped up to take charge. Airee’s impressive counterattack—making 75 runs off 67 balls with 2 fours and 3 sixes—revived Nepal’s innings and ensured the scoreboard kept moving at a strong pace.

In the closing overs, Karan KC delivered the much-needed acceleration by scoring 49 runs off just 31 balls, achieving a strike rate of 158. His powerful hitting helped Nepal surpass the 270-run mark before the team was bowled out with one ball remaining in their innings.

USA Bowling

For the United States, left-arm spinner Harmeet Singh starred, taking 3/33 in 10 overs. His control in the middle overs prevented Nepal from attacking. Nosthush Kenjige (2/45) and Saurabh Netravalkar (2/61) provided valuable support, while Jasdeep Singh and Shubham Ranjane took a wicket each.

Nepal Premier League: Faf du Plessis to Feature in Nepal Premier League 2025

0

In a landmark moment for Nepali cricket, former South African captain and international cricket legend Faf du Plessis has signed with Biratnagar Kings for the upcoming Nepal Premier League (NPL) 2025. The arrival of the 41-year-old batting legend represents one of the most significant signings in the league’s history and is expected to bring unprecedented star power to the tournament, scheduled to be held from November 17 to December 13, 2025.

Du Plessis will don the Biratnagar Kings jersey alongside Nepal’s spin wizard captain Sandeep Lamichhane in the second edition of the Nepal Premier League. The tournament, featuring eight teams competing in 32 matches at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur, has already attracted considerable attention.

Du Plessis brings an impressive pedigree to the NPL, having secured four Indian Premier League titles with the Chennai Super Kings in 2018 and 2021, and serving as captain of the Royal Challengers Bangalore from 2022 to 2024. His presence is anticipated to significantly enhance the profile of the league and provide invaluable mentorship to Nepal’s emerging cricket talent.

Australia vs India T20I: Hazlewood’s early blows to India and Marsh’s innings helped Australia easy win

0

Australia chased down India’s modest total of 125 to clinch a comfortable 4-wicket win in the 2nd T20I clash. After Josh Hazlewood’s outstanding spell set the tone early in the game. Australia’s batting lineup showed composure and control to seal the chase with an over to spare. Australia chase 125 runs in 13.2 overs with loss of 6 wickets.

India’s First Innings: A Glimmer Amid Collapse

India elected to bat first. Their hopes rested heavily on young opener Abhishek Sharma, who produced a feather-ruffling knock of 68 off 37 balls, including 8 fours and 2 sixes.

But beyond that roar of resistance, the batting line-up simply couldn’t handle the pressure. The top order fell succumbing to early strikes, and India were bowled out for 125 in 18.4 overs.

On the Australian side, the new ball did most of the damage. Josh Hazlewood was magnificent — claiming 3 for 13 in his four overs, hitting the Indian top-order where it hurt most.

Support came from Xavier Bartlett (2 wickets) and Nathan Ellis (2 wickets) who kept the pressure on until India’s innings collapsed

Australia’s Chase

Chasing 126, Australia launched into the target with a plan and executed it brilliantly. Travis Head got them off to a fast start, scoring 28 off 15 balls.

Then, skipper Mitchell Marsh took the attack on and blazed his way to 46 off 26 balls, including a flurry of boundaries and sixes.

The target never looked beyond grasp. Australia finished at 126/6 in 13.2 overs, wrapping up with ample time to spare.
