England have got their biggest ever 89-run victory over Sri Lanka in T20I. After Sri Lanka’s defeat in the third T20 match, the home team England has swept the three-match T20 International series with 3-0. The first and second games of the series were won by the home team by 8 wickets and 5 wickets respectively.
This is Sri Lanka’s third biggest defeat in terms of runs in T20 international cricket. Sri Lanka had earlier lost to Australia by 134 runs in 2019 and India by 93 runs in 2017.
Batting first after losing the toss, England scored 180 for six in the 20 overs at Rose Ball Southampton and gave Sri Lanka a target of 181 runs. Chasing the target, Sri Lanka were all out for 91 runs. Apart from Binura Fernando (20), Oshada Fernando (19) and Niroshan Dickwella (11), no other batsmen could add double figures for Sri Lanka.
England bowler David Wiley took the most 3 wickets (4-0-27-3) while Sam Curran took 2 wickets and Chris Vokes, Chris Jordan, Liam Livingstone and Moin Ali took 1 wicket each.
England opener David Malan top-scored with 76 off 48 balls with five fours and four sixes. Another opener Johnny Bairstow hit five fours and a six off 43 balls. Except for Liam Livingstone (14), no other batsmen were able to add double figures.
In Sri Lanka’s bowling, right-arm pacer Dusmantha Chamira took 4 wickets in which he bowled 4 overs and spent only 17 runs. Binura Fernando and Isuru Udana took one wicket each.
