Rain has badly affected the final match of the first edition of the World Test Championship between India and New Zealand. It rained heavily on the first day of the historic Test match while bad weather affected about two hours on the second and third day of rain. On the fourth day, there was no one-over played due to bad weather .
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has set a date of June 23 to compensate for any interruptions in the match, but that is not enough to complete a 450 over Test match. If there is no result in the scheduled time, the trophy of the first and historic World Test Championship will be distributed to both India and New Zealand.
Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag had suggested that there should be three Tests in the final. And same was Kapil Dev, India’s 1983 Cricket World Cup winning captain.
Former Indian cricketer VVS Laxman and former New Zealand fast bowler Shane Bond have criticized the ICC for not planning well for the final. In Laxman’s view, the ICC did not correct the rules as neither team nor fans would be happy with the draw.
“I don’t think the ICC has made the rules right,” Bond said. There was no shortage of time, even if enough time was available, a minimum of 90 overs could be allowed in 5 days to complete a game of 450 overs.
Both teams want to play to win. The pitch is giving the bowlers a lot of support if the result can be expected even after three-four days of play.
